It’s going to be a sweet holiday break for two high school bands in Palm Beach County as they head out of state to perform in two college bowl games.
Boynton Beach Community High School’s Tiger Sound Band will be performing at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Saturday, December 29, and Palm Beach Lakes High School Regiment Band will be performing at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.
The performances mark the first time that either school has been invited to perform in the bowl games that draw millions of viewers. The hard work for the bands has not only been about practicing their instruments, but also raising the money to make the trip happen.
The Regiment Band received their invitation in May and needed to raise $105,000 for the 90 students to make the trip to New Orleans from December 29 through January 2. They are still about $9,000 short of their goal.
The Tiger Sound Band received a later invitation that arrived in September leaving the band to quickly raise the $53,688 for their 67 band members to travel to Atlanta. They’ve raised more than half of that money, including receiving a $200 donation from the Boynton Beach City Commission’s Community Support Funds.

The Peach Bowl will air on ESPN starting at 12:00 p.m. December 29. The Sugar Bowl will air on ESPN on January 2 at 8:45 p.m.
